By JamesM March 01, 2025 0 comments

A koi whose entire body is covered in sparkling gold or silver scales is called a Kin Gin Rin Koi. The term "Kin Gin Rin" literally means "Gold Silver Scales."
(1) Kin Gin Rin Kohaku
Kohaku with sparkling scales. When the bright scales appear within the red (hi) patches, it is called a Kin Rin Kohaku (Gold Scale Kohaku). When the shiny scales are on the white base, it is called a Gin Rin Kohaku (Silver Scale Kohaku).
  • Gin Rin Kohaku can be broadly divided into two types:
    • Pearl Gin Rin: Scales that show distinct, individual silver spots, like pearls.
    • Diamond Gin Rin / Bar Gin Rin: Scales where the shiny silver part forms linear or带状 bands of light.
  • For both Pearl and Diamond Gin Rin, the quality is higher if the shiny particles are large, uniform, and neatly arranged.
