(1) Symptoms:
The parasite's head burrows into the skin, muscles, fins, or mouth of the koi to feed. The affected areas become inflamed, swollen, and develop red patches or necrosis.
(2) Preventive Measures:
Apply 125 kg of distiller's grains per mu (per meter of water depth) to the pond. Use this treatment every 3–7 days as a preventive cycle.
(3) Prevention and Treatment Methods:
  • Remove the parasites with tweezers and apply merbromin solution (red antiseptic) to the wounds.
  • Apply trichlorfon throughout the entire pond at a concentration of (0.5–0.7)×10⁻⁶ mg/L.
  • Apply a 1% potassium permanganate solution to the wounds for about 30 seconds, and repeat the application the next day. Follow this by applying nitrofurazone throughout the entire pond at a concentration of (1–1.5)×10⁻⁶ mg/L.
  • Use a trichlorfon solution at 0.5×10⁻⁶ mg/L or specialized medication to kill the parasites. However, the treatment must be repeated 2–3 times at intervals of 5–7 days to thoroughly eliminate larvae and eggs.
