3. Aging or Disease
Elderly koi may develop spinal curvature due to skeletal degeneration, muscle atrophy, chronic malnutrition (e.g., deficiencies in vitamins C or D), parasitic infections (e.g., affecting the spine), or bacterial diseases (e.g., fish tuberculosis). Such curvature is usually irreversible, but deterioration can be slowed by improving water quality and nutrition.
